Summer Semester 2020
Yoga Through a Spiritual Lens
Find Your Spiritual Path
It is a practical methodology for living a satisfying and meaningful life. Yoga provides teachings on all aspects of living, from caring for the body to tending the mind, to navigating difficult relationships, to finding a deeper spiritual connection.
The foundation of this class is Yoga philosophy, however, there is also the invitation for sangha with others also exploring their spiritual connection.
Your spiritual path can lead you towards reduced suffering, help you recognize when you’re out of balance, and give you the confidence to trust your inner knowing.
In this class, you will explore your own spiritual path through the experience of Yoga.
You will also be introduced and guided through a variety of texts and modalities, including Patañjali’s Yogasūtra, Bhaghavad Gita, Christianity, and Sufi Philosophy, to discover the similarities and differences in their views on spirituality.

Develop more clarity in understanding myself.
Becky brings all of herself to our work together; her professional training in therapy and yoga, as well as her deep spirit and awareness as a fellow traveler through the journey of life. My work with Becky has been integral to helping me develop more clarity in understanding myself and my experiences, discovering my authentic self, and moving toward more integration and harmony on a physical and spiritual level.
Interested in other classes?
Each semester, Yoga Well offers a range of classes focused on different areas of your Yoga journey.
What You Will Learn
You will first walk through Patañjali’s Yogasūtra with a spiritual lens to discover how the experiential pieces of Yoga help you gain the ability to see your path and “hear the direction.” Through the foundation of the Yogasūtra, you will then explore how other teachings consider spirituality.
Here are some of the texts & modalities you will cover:
- Patañjali’s Yogasūtra
- Paramahansa Yogananda
- Sāṃkhya
- Bhagavad Gītā
- Gandhi
- Teilhard de Chardin
- Sufi Philosophy
- The Bible
- Richard Rhor
- Sri T.K. Bhashyam
In studying and discussing these teachings, you will hopefully come out of class with an openness to new perspectives. You will understand a variety of ways to climb the mountain — and know that the top is the same.

Your Instructor
Becky Deano
In 2006 after returning from study in India at the Krishnamacharaya Yoga Mandiram Becky and several fellow yoga teachers formed Yoga Sanga, a studio in Mandeville, La. Having the opportunity to teach and study with this close-knit, committed group for many years has been an amazing gift. The majority of her work life is with private clients; enjoying mentoring other yoga students and yoga therapists, as well as working with those presenting with mental health concerns or exploring spiritual connection.
Luckily she still resides in her hometown which satisfies her obsession with sunsets. Other joys are family and friends, studying dreams, and walks along a seashore.
