Summer Semester 2020

Mentoring in yoga

Principles & Strategies for Being a Mentor

The experiences of mentoring and being mentored are at the foundation of Viniyoga.

A personal mentorship relationship is so valuable in supporting the application of Yoga in your life deeply. Mentoring can be for a Yoga Teacher, a student, or a Yoga Therapist.

This one-to-one relationship is an integral part of Yoga. It is the role of the mentor to support and guide the student of Yoga as they study, develop, and establish a personal practice.

In this class, Dr. Marcel Allbritton will share what he has learned in over a decade of mentoring and supporting the long-term process of healing and transformation of Yoga Therapy students and Yoga students — and show you how you can, too.

This class is designed to equip you with the tools and strategies to expand your skills and knowledge as a mentor. To gain the most value, you should have:

  • A desire to be a mentor in one-to-one mentorships
  • Have an established personal practice

A relationship that is based on trust and authentic connect.

By building a relationship that is based on trust and authentic connection, Marcel tuned into—and evoked—a part of me that I thought was lost due to a prolonged state of severe stress, anxiety, and depression.

The overwhelming demands of my job left me seeped in unpleasant, unhealthy stress chemicals and feeling like a gun was always pointed at my head. As a compassionate, experienced, highly trained mind body therapist, Marcel has helped me learn to calm my system, gain awareness of, and change how my body and mind respond to stressful situations. The stressful job has not changed, but the way I deal with job stress (and of the rest of life) is completely transformed.
