Summer Semester 2020

Discovering Meditation

An Introductory Meditation Class

Meditation offers a number of benefits for your body, mind, breath, and spirit. Practicing meditation can help you build awareness of habitual thinking & patterned behavior, find your inner voice to respond to situations authentically, experience a feeling of calm and peace, and much more. Even in its simplicity, meditation holds enormous power. Yet, because much of it happens internally, it can sometimes be a mystery to new students. In this class, your teacher will demystify meditation through guided meditation experiences and discussion of those same experiences. You will also learn the tools and techniques necessary to continue your meditation practice with confidence.

Prerequisites

The only prerequisites is a commitment to being open and a desire to be led through the experience of meditation.

*You will receive 8 contact hours: Techniques, Training & Practice (4), Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle & Ethics (4)

Continues to inspire me as I grow.

As a student of Robyn’s I never felt like I was taught lessons as much as I felt her wisdom through her presence. She has the nuanced skill of being both pointed and subtle at the same time. Robyn is the kind of teacher I aspire to be. The way she interacts with her students has been a great influence on my own teaching. The level of care and knowledge she combines in working with her students continues to inspire me as I grow in my own path as a teacher.

What You Will Learn

Each class will begin with a meditation experience, followed by a discussion of that experience, and then an overview of the concepts and techniques presented in the meditation. Through experiential learning, you will embody meditation and gain more confidence to continue practicing on your own after this class ends. The exploration of this class includes:

  • An introduction to meditation as both a process and experience
  • What is concentration and why do we need it?
  • How to move through the present moment and what happens next?
  • How to create supportive internal & external environments for meditation
  • Connecting and reconnecting with your object of meditation
  • The function of “beginning, middle, and end” in meditation

Real world approach to demystify meditation.

I am a current student of Robyn Love’s. Her teaching style has allowed me to understand meditation from a whole new perspective. The study has been engaging and inspiring. Robyn has a very “real world” approach to helping you understand the material, demystifying meditation for myself and her other students. I have also participated in meditation sessions, and a half-day sit that she leads and feel comfortable and safe with her as a guide. I am very grateful for her teaching, commitment, and grace in this area.

Your Instructor

Robyn Love

Robyn Love, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, has been studying yoga for over 20 years. She started her training in the Viniyoga tradition with Guta Hedewig in New York City in 2008. Through those trainings, she met Chase Bossart and Dolphi Wertenbaker, eventually training with them to certify as a Yoga Therapist in 2017. Robyn also is a long-time formal student in the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhism. These two practices have informed Robyn’s teaching style, which is light and playful while also asking her students to dig deep. After over 30 years in New York City, Robyn now lives on the west coast of Newfoundland in Canada, where she teaches Yoga, leads teacher trainings and makes art.  She homeschooled her two children (now adults) – an experience that convinced her that lifelong learning is not just possible for all people but our birthright. Teaching with Yoga Well is part of sharing that conviction!
