Meet K. Lee

What do you get when a girl grows up discovering yoga & motorcycles are both powerful therapies ?
You get a great yoga teacher who considers the thunder of a v-twin engine one of her most healing mantras.  You get a professional educator, author, and therapist who uses yoga as a vehicle for herself and others to live and ride longer.  You get a goddess of Biker Yoga !

K. Lee Kappmeier founded YogaWell after years of experience, education, and results in the Holistic Health field (and on her Harley).  Her expertize and leadership in the industry includes heading programs for hosptials, directing schools that certify yoga teachers/therapists, presenting at international conventions & rallies, as well as writing and video work.

More about K. Lee;

Like many of her students and patients, K. Lee began to practice yoga because of great physical discomfort. However, her impetus of pain came at the relatively young teenage years. She can remember always being fascinated with yoga and holistic health. As a child she would often spontaneously assume a yoga posture.

K. Lee was born with a weak and crooked spine. Upon adolescence, her scoliosis worsened. She was a competitive athlete and didn't like the idea of braces and surgery but was willing to be disciplined physically, so she finally turned to yoga and began her life-long journey of healing and teaching. She was amazed at how much benefit she received. She became more content physically, mentally, and spiritually.

After high school K. Lee was a lifeguard, and also taught tennis, exercise, and dance while attending various massage schools and yoga teacher trainings. Herbs, nutrition, and some martial arts were also a part of her life as she studied them. Her education has always been eclectic and in-depth. She learned and practiced many styles of yoga including: Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Raja, and Shivananda.

K. Lee’s first trip to India was in 1987. By that time she had worked as a recreation therapist and taught preschool. Upon her return to the States, she again went back to college and double majored earning degrees in both Physical Therapy and Psychology with honors.

K. Lee culminated all her learning into her practice as a licensed Holistic Health Practitioner, seeing clients and teaching yoga. She had the experience of working with diverse populations including those physically challenged in wheelchairs, terminally ill, accident victims, athletes, and pregnant couples. She completed the Childbirth Educator Program at UCSD in 1991 and has attended many births. In 2001 she started the Pre/postnatal Yoga program at SHARP Mary Birch Hospital.

K. Lee values and integrates the contemporary principles of her knowledge as a Certified Medical Exercise Specialist and personal trainer along with the science of the Himalayan Masters and their tradition. In addition, the insights she’s gained from being a delegate at the 1998 International Yoga Conference in India, coupled with her continued doctoral studies in Integrative and Planetary Mind-Body Medicine has inspired her in so many personal and professional ways. In 2001 she received her certificate in Tibetan Buddhist Psychology.

K. Lee plans on expanding the clinic, "The Institute of Progressive Therapies," to include more formal classes and some correspondence courses in addition to the workshops and apprenticeships currently available. She works with many people interested in teaching yoga and/or learning massage for vocational or other goals. A private or small group program can be arranged to study yoga, meditation, herbs, or massage therapy such as Swedish/Esalen, deep tissue, sports, and Thai Medical Massage. Please refer to the Certification Courses section for further information.
